Caster Control Application Crashes

Hopefully this won't occur very often, but when it does occur, it's important to note the exact steps you performed leading up to the crash. Second, there are a set of files that contain useful troubleshooting information. Collecting these files will greatly assist in the bug-hunting process.

First, find the "system.log" file:

  1. After the error occurs, start the "Console" application. You can find this in Applications -> Utilities.
  2. When the Console application starts, there should be a list of files on the left hand side of the window that opens.
  3. Select "system.log" from the list of files. The display should change slightly to show the contents of this log file.
  4. Save a copy by choosing "Save a Copy as..." from the "File" menu.
  5. When the save as window opens, browse to your dropbox shared folder and save the file. You can give it a different name, if you'd like.
  6. Quit the console application.
Second, I'd like to get a copy of the crash report:
  1. From the "Finder" perform the following steps to locate the file:
  2. Choose the Go -> Home menu item
  3. Open the Library folder, then Logs, then DiagnosticReports.
  4. Find the file that looks something like this: Caster_2010-05-08-124906_your_computer_name.crash
